What to Expect

In the morning:

You will visit the Grand Palace and the Wat Phra Kaew: temple of the Emerald Buddha as the very first attractions among our list. You will walk around the complex while observing the golden Chedi (Buddhist stupa), pantheon of the Chakri’s Kings (Chakri is the current reigning dynasty of the kingdom of Thailand), a scaled-down replica of Angkor Wat in Cambodia, coronation throne hall and the royal reception hall. Our second stop Wat Phra Kaew, commonly known in English as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha is a complex consists of a number of buildings within the precincts of the Grand Palace in the historical center of Bangkok. It houses the statue of the Emerald Buddha, which is venerated as the country’s palladium. It is regarded as the most sacred Buddhist temple in Thailand. Next, we will visit Wat Pho (the temple of the reclining Buddha), one of the largest and oldest temple in Bangkok. The temple is considered the earliest center for public education in Thailand, and the marble illustrations and inscriptions placed in the temple for public instructions has been recognized by UNESCO. It houses a school of Thai medicine, and is also known as the birthplace of traditional Thai massage which is still taught and practiced at the temple. The 46m long reclining Buddha statue is one of the primary religious icon which is famous among tourists.

In the afternoon:
We will take a private long tail boat ride along the bustling Chao Phraya River and it’s much quieter Klongs (Canals) to observe the picturesque scenes of Thai river life. On the river bank, you will see the Wat Arun (the temple of dawn), an important landmark located on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River. After this relaxing and interesting boat ride, we will visit the Park, Klong Talad (flowers and vegetable market), known mostly as a wholesale flower market serving everyone from flower vendors to florists. Other than flowers, it has a good selection of fresh vegetables, which are bought in the pre-dawn hours and to be transported to neighborhood markets around Bangkok for sale in the next day morning.

Key attractions
  • The Royal Grand palaceThe Grand Palace is a complex of buildings at the heart of Bangkok, Thailand. The palace has been the official residence of the Kings of Siam (and later Thailand) since 1782. The king, his court, and his royal government was based on the grounds of the palace until 1925 and it is still used for official events. Several royal ceremonies and state functions are held within the walls of the palace every year. The palace is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Thailand.
  • Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew)Wat Phra Kaew, commonly known in English as the Temple of the Emerald Buddha is regarded as the most sacred Buddhist temple in Thailand. Construction of the temple began in 1783 under the orders of Rama I, the first king of the Chakri dynasty. Since then, each successive king has been personally involved in adding, restoring and embellishing the temple during their reigns as a way of making religious merit and glorifying the dynasty. Many important states and royal ceremonies are held within the temple each year. This makes the temple the nation's preeminent place of worship and a national shrine for the monarchy and the state. The temple complex comprises various buildings for specific religious purposes built in a variety of Thai architectural styles, while still adhering to the traditional principles of Thai religious architecture.
  • Temple of the reclining Buddha (Wat Pho)The temple is first on the list of six temples in Thailand classed as the highest grade of the first-class royal temples. It's associated with King Rama I who rebuilt the temple complex on an earlier temple site. It became his main temple and is where some of his ashes are enshrined. The temple was later expanded and extensively renovated by Rama III. The temple complex houses the largest collection of Buddha images in Thailand, including a 46m long reclining Buddha.
  • Chao Phraya RiverThe Chao Phraya is the major river in Thailand, with its low alluvial plain forming the center of the country. It flows through Bangkok and then into the Gulf of Thailand.
  • Pak Klong Talad (flowers and vegetables market)Pak Khlong Talat is a market that sells flowers, fruits and vegetables. It is the primary flower market of Bangkok and has been cited as a "place of symbolic value" to Bangkok residents. It's on Chak Phet Road and adjacent side-streets, close to Memorial Bridge. Though the market is open 24 hours, it's busiest before dawn when boats and trucks arrive with flowers from nearby provinces. It's location by the Chao Phraya River near the southern end of Khlong Lot, hence the name 'Pak Khlong Talat', literally means "the market on the mouth of the canal".
