What to Expect

In the morning:

We will pick you from the hotel you staying in Bangkok and our first stop will be the Wat Yai Chai Mongkhol, a monastery was constructed by King U-Thong (the first ruler of Ayutthaya) in 1357 AD to accommodate the monks. It’s considered as one of the most sacred temples of all Ayutthaya old towns and the grand stupa which standing there since some 400 years ago. You may climb to the top of the stupa to see the interior and ancient Buddha images while experiencing the relaxing atmosphere of the complex. Next we will visit the Ayutthaya historical park, a UNESCO heritage and one of Thailand’s most majestic highlights. It was the second capital of the Siamese Kingdom and flourished from the 14th to the 18th centuries. It was one of the world’s largest and most cosmopolitan urban areas and a center of global diplomacy and commerce. Ayutthaya was chosen because it was located above the tidal bore of the Gulf of Siam as it existed at that time, thus preventing attack of the city by the seagoing warships of other nations. Our next stop during the morning session will be the Wihan Phra Mongkhon Bophit, a gorgeous chapel dated to the 15th century. The then hold an image of Buddha, which is one of the biggest Buddha images in Thailand.

In the afternoon:

We will visit Wat Mahathat, widely known as the Temple of the Great Relics. It’s a home of large crumbling Chedi (stupa) surrounded by low laterite walls and rows of Buddha Images. One Buddha Image-head is in a tree trunk. Many important royal ceremonies of the Ayutthaya era had been hosted here. When the Ayutthaya Kingdom failed in 1767, Wat Phra Mahathat was severely damaged by fire and was since abandoned. Next we will visit Wat Ratchaburana, built in 1424 by King Borommarachathirat II as a memorial to his two elder brothers. The two brothers had fought to their deaths in a duel for the royal succession to their father. The highlight of Wat Ratchaburana is the crypt where tremendous treasures were stored. In 1957, looters smuggled through the Prang and plundered a considerable amount of valuables, especially votive tablets made of tin and lead. In September 1957, the Fine Arts Department officially excavated and restored the crypt of this impressive historical site. Finally, we will enjoy a private longtail boat ride on the Chao Phraya River, served as a channel for trade and it will be a perfect way to observe the beauty and lifestyle of the Thai people living in the suburbs.
